Thikta means bitter, one of Ayurveda's six tastes. Each taste has its own qualities, and bitter is light and cooling. Formulas in the thikta family are among Kerala's best known; this set gathers three of them.

What's inside

• Thikthaka Ghee (Ghritham): (7.4 oz (200 g)) Prepared to the Sahasrayogam text: neem bark, bacopa, cyperus and long pepper in a pure ghee base.

• Mahathikthakam Kwath: (90 tablets) A classical thikta (bitter-herb) kwath, pressed into tablets for daily convenience.

• Nimbamruthadi Castor Oil: (1 fl oz (30 ml)) A classical preparation with guggul and neem. Use only as directed on the label.

A simple daily rhythm

• Morning: Thikthaka Ghee: 1–2 teaspoons on an empty stomach, or in warm water or milk.

• Daily: Mahathikthakam Kwath: as directed on the label.

• Occasionally: Nimbamruthadi Castor Oil: only as the label directs.

Take Thikthaka Ghee and Mahathikthakam Kwath as directed on their labels as part of a regular daily rhythm, and keep the castor-oil preparation for occasional use.
