Pitta Dosha Personality Traits
When a Pitta is in harmony with their natural state of being, they’re a sight to see. Imagine lustrous hair bouncing in the sunlight, a flawless complexion, radiating energy, and sunbeams.
Characterized by an impressive digestive system, we often have efficient metabolisms, athletic body shapes, and hearty appetites for food, but even more so for life.
If you’re a Pitta you’re probably in a position of power or an enterprising solo-preneur with visionary plans for the future. When a Pitta Dosha walks in the room you can feel confidence radiating. Our ability to quickly learn likely boosts that confidence of ours. We’re determined, goal oriented, and highly motivated. To top it off, our crowning glory is often our hair and skin.
The Balanced Pitta
If you enjoyed reading a highlight reel, featuring all of your best attributes, you should know staying balanced is a precarious balancing act.
Pitta Doshas are ruled by elements seemingly at odds -fire and water. If you’re a Pitta, you’re all too familiar with this delicate balancing act. Fire has to heat water without boiling it. Water must gently interact with fire, causing it to steam rather than snubbing it out. Fire is passion, strength, and a force to be reckoned with. Water is emotion, articulate, and self-awareness. Clearly, these elements are not the most compatible combo. However, when working in tandem, they make for an electric duo fueling one another’s growth.
Wellness is a personal journey dependent on your constitution and body. Although, diet and exercise are universally helpful in balancing the Pitta dosha.
Eating Like A Pitta
Pittas should reach for sweet, bitter, and astringent foods. Spices like mint, dill, and cinnamon are great ways to check your internal fires. Other favorites are fennel, coriander, turmeric, and cardamom.
Sour fruits (apples and lemons), vegetables (tomatoes, garlic, and onions), light oils ( almond and corn oil), dairy ( milk, paneer, and ghee) are excellent eats for this dosha. Pitta should avoid meat, eating eggs in moderation.
Working It Like A Pitta
Exercise is highly recommended for this dosha. Their excessive energy needs a healthy outlet. For Pitta, we’re continuously monitoring our fire, ensuring a flame stays a flame and not a forest fire. We recommend expending energy in the early morning or evening when it’s cooler outside. …no need to stoke the flames by working out in the middle of the day.
Then, Stop Working It
Pittas aren’t particularly good at r&r. Stop til you drop could be considered the unofficial tagline of this dosha. Without rest, our fires will burnout.
Rest doesn’t always mean sleeping. Sometimes, the best rest is strolling through your local park, being in nature, taking time to smell the roses, or read a book. Make time to breathe in the fresh air.
But! The best medicine of all for a Pitta is laughter. This is a dosha so full of life they literally need to exhale it from their body via a good, hearty, belly-aching laugh.
The Not So Great Pitta Traits
So far, being a Pitta seems peachy, doesn’t it? The balanced Pitta is the best kind of Pitta. It’s the imbalance Pitta Dosha Personality Traits that may turn that smile the other way around.
Sometimes, it rains on your parade and others it’s more like a hurricane. No matter what comes next, never forget you don’t have to be ruled by your not so great proclivities. Pitta Doshas have many positive physical and personality traits, but there’s two sides to every coin. After all, fire not contained has the potential to become a wildfire.
Pitta doshas are quick witted, but quick to anger with a low tolerance b.s meter. We’re athletic in stature, yet overly competitive, argumentative, and impatient. A ‘winning isn’t everything’ motivational magnet would make a great gift for the Pitta in your life.
Charismatic, eccentric, and enthusiastic with a genuinely magnetic vigor for life, we rarely run from a challenge. …In fact, when not balanced, we may very well be the cause of our challenges. When not checked, enthusiasm becomes restlessness which runs us ragged with little regard for our health.
Ever wonder where the term ‘hanger’ came from? It may be from a Pitta too busy running that they forgot to eat. A hungry Pitta is not a Pitta people particularly want to be around. Pitta all too easily becomes pitta-ful. There’s a saying in Ayurveda that Pittas are either hungry or angry. Bring snacks, keep them cool, and pick your battles—especially in the summer!
Learning to balance the doshas is an art and science that is wholly intuitive and will flourish from your self-awareness. When you understand your constitution, you’ll be able to identify your strengths and weaknesses and keep an eye out for disorder and imbalance tendencies.
Getting to know your dosha also helps you get to know other people’s doshas and better understand all those who make your world go round. This can bring greater joy and compassion to personal relationships and help you see things (and people) in a whole new light. Align yourself with nature, stay in step with the seasons and your environment, and remember that Pitta— just like the other doshas, is perfect!
